area, with its small park, eucalyptus lined beach and pretty
lake is an ideal place to sit and relax on my journey around
the island. Situated on the western side of Sami, it is a very
pleasant, quiet retreat with a wonderful atmosphere.
Karavomilos Lake is quite famous, in fact you cannot mention Karavomilos without
including Katavothres and Melissani Lake.
All are linked by the underground cave system created during the ice age that
is totally unique to Kefalonia, the water of the nearby subterranean lake at
Melissani surfaces here and gushes back out into the sea through the waterwheel.
Many tourists who perhaps prefer the nearby busy port of Sami may overlook this
area; access to Andisamos beach is through the town, and many ferries leave the
port of Sami for other islands.
However, I am very pleased to be able to sit here in
tranquillity . . . with some stunning views of this beautiful island.
